You can also install what is known as a supervised system which will keep control of all the sensors to make sure that they are communicating with each other properly and are in good working order. A third option if you wish to install your own home security system is known as a self contained intruder alarm system. The advantage of these type of systems is that they can be plugged into any outlet quickly and easily. Give some thought to installing your own intruder alarm system and remember a few key points. Check areas of the house where you plan to install cameras and motion sensors to ensure that the background noise levels are minimal and that nothing will obsure the signal being transmitted from them.
Avoid installing devices under metal lintels which are placed on top of windows or doors. The reason for this is that they can interfere with the transmission of signals from these device. The same principle applies in terms of installing the devices near electrical distribution equipment. Also avoid installation near computers or televisions.
If you have very thick walls that cause the signal to become weak, you should install the aerial high up in the loft so that transmissions can be clear and not interfered with. Before installing your own home security system, take a look around your home and identify any potential entrance points by intruders. These are where cameras and motion sensors should be placed.
Take note of any open spaces that you have which may be suitable for motion sensors. Give some thought to where you wish to install the central control panel for the system. Ideally you don’t want this installed somewhere where an intruder can easily see it. But make sure you place it so that it is in range of the other devices throughout the home for it to communicate with them.
You can also install magnetic switches on doors and windows where a burglar may enter. The basic switch comprises of two parts which are a magnet and a switch. They are not difficult to install and you can test them easily to check they are working properly.
The idea of this system is that the alarm goes off if the distance between the magnet and the switch increases too much for a burglar to enter in between. Another device to install is called a contact sensor which should be placed in areas where an intruder is probably going to pass. A keypad should be installed near to the entry door so that you can set or disable the alarm easily.
