You can choose to have your home monitored security system connected to a professional company who will keep track of the system. These companies do however charge a monthly fee but the entire monitoring process is carried out by a team of professionals who are experts in home security.

The system that you have installed in your home will be connected to the central control system of the security company where the staff will be based. This will usually be done by a protected telephone line. All signals from the control panel will be monitored by the staff at the control centre to see if anything is wrong.

If a part of the security system such as a motion sensor or magnetic switch is triggered, then a signal will be sent back to the security centre who will then alert the police. This means that the police may already be on their way to you before you even realise there is a problem. In addition to contacting the police, the system can also send an alert to your mobile phone which is very helpful if you are working away from home or are away on holiday.

As a backup though a password can be put in place so that needless police call outs are avoided. The central security company will attempt to contact the home owner and if they supply the correct password, the call to the police will not be made.

There of course will be occasions when you trigger the alarm by accident, in these cases you will have between thirty and forty five seconds to enter you security code into the keypad to avoid a call being made to the police.

The home security system is connected to the systems of the security company by a phone line, of course it is possible for this phone line to be tampered with. Therefore the security company will try to contact you if for any reason the signal between your home and their computers is lost.

For this reason you must supply the security company with a mobile or cell number so that they can contact you if the regular phone line is down. They will confirm with you that the phone line is down before alerting the police.

Another do-it-yourself option is wireless alarm system. It uses radio waves and requires no great skills to install. Supervised alarm systems are those wireless systems, which can monitor their sensors to ensure that they are communicating properly with the control panel. Some of these supervised systems are inexpensive and can be connected to full-time monitoring stations installed in a security company.

Another do-it-yourself option is the self-contained burglar alarm system. It can be plugged into any outlet and can be removed as and when needed. These systems can be bought for $150 or even less.

The following points must be kept in mind while installing the DIY burglar alarm system:

- The signal strength and background noise levels in the proposed location should be checked before the devices are mounted;

- The transmitting and receiving devices should not be mounted under metal lintels placed on top of windows, doors etc. because they affect transmission of signals;

- Any wiring into the transmitters and receivers should be kept away from the aerials.

- Receivers or receiver aerials should not be mounted near to electrical distribution equipment, televisions, computer equipments or large metals.

- Make sure that the remote aerial is mounted in the correct orientation. Never clip any other cable close to the aerial or the aerial cable. Also, try not to run your aerial cable next to mains cables.

- In case of very thick walls where the signal strength is weak, the receiver or its aerial should be mounted high up in the loft.

- Survey the premises carefully before installing the detection devices.

On this page of our website is information on Home Security System.

There are a number of things you can use when installing a wired camera home security system. YOu can use monitors which will display video feeds from the various cameras that you will have placed around your home in various places. You will probably find that a security monitor will have a much better resolution than a standard TV receiver.

As mentioned above you will need to install security cameras at various places around your home, you really need to think about where you will place the security cameras for the best coverage of your home. Try to cover any possible entrance points to your home and make sure there aren’t any objects in the line of sight of the camera. You will also need to be aware of decorating your house in the future because it is easy to forget about the security cameras. Try to get into the habit of checking the feed from the security cameras on a regular basis to ensure they are working properly.

Many home security experts will say that the camera is the most integral part of a security system. Because of this it is important to take care when choosing which camera system to buy. Here are a few tips and pieces of advice to consider before buying a camera system.

Before you go to buy the cameras, take a walk around your home and see how many cameras you will need. Also will you need any cameras placed outside your home? If so then these will need to be capable of withstanding the various weather conditions.

Do you need to be able to have an audio option on the camera as well so that you can record sound as well as picures? Mostly this option will not be needed apart from certain circumstances.

You also need to decide whether to buy cameras that record colour or black and white images.

Another part of a wired camera home security system is a type of cabling that is called coaxial. This is simply used to transmit video imformation between the security cameras and the monitors.

It is worth noting that security camera systems that broadcast in colour are more expensive than black and white systems. But bear in mind that black and white camera systems are the better option for night time recording unless the area is well lit up.

Some of the latest models of camera will switch between coloured images during the day and will change to black and white at night using special filters.

On this page of our website is information on Home Security System Installation Instruction.

There are a number of ways to install a burglar alarm in your home, ranging from very expensive systems installed by companies such as ADT or Brinks. Or if you wish you can install the home security system yourself. In general the most common type of system that is installed by the user is a hard wired security system.

In this case the entire security system is connected to the power circuit of the home. It is also possible to include sensors which can protect the home against other threats such as fire.

There is another option available to you when installing your own home security system. You can choose a wireless security system that will use signals to transmit between the cameras and the monitors. The great advantage of this type of system is that it is quite easy to install and will fit easier around the house because of the lack of wires. No one will want ugly wires sticking out around the house.

You can also install what is known as a supervised system which will keep control of all the sensors to make sure that they are communicating with each other properly and are in good working order. These are not too expensive and they can be connected to a main security companies main control room, companies that offer this type of service are ADT and Brinks security companies.

A third option if you wish to install your own home security system is known as a self contained intruder alarm system. The advantage of these type of systems is that they can be plugged into any outlet quickly and easily. Give some thought to installing your own intruder alarm system and remember a few key points. Check areas of the house where you plan to install cameras and motion sensors to ensure that the background noise levels are minimal and that nothing will obsure the signal being transmitted from them.

Avoid installing devices under metal lintels which are placed on top of windows or doors. The reason for this is that they can interfere with the transmission of signals from these device. The same principle applies in terms of installing the devices near electrical distribution equipment. Also avoid installation near computers or televisions.

If you have very thick walls that cause the signal to become weak, you should install the aerial high up in the loft so that transmissions can be clear and not interfered with. Before installing your own home security system, take a look around your home and identify any potential entrance points by intruders. These are where cameras and motion sensors should be placed.

Take note of any open spaces that you have which may be suitable for motion sensors. Give some thought to where you wish to install the central control panel for the system. Ideally you don’t want this installed somewhere where an intruder can easily see it. But make sure you place it so that it is in range of the other devices throughout the home for it to communicate with them.

You can also install magnetic switches on doors and windows where a burglar may enter. The basic switch comprises of two parts which are a magnet and a switch. They are not difficult to install and you can test them easily to check they are working properly.

The idea of this system is that the alarm goes off if the distance between the magnet and the switch increases too much for a burglar to enter in between. Another device to install is called a contact sensor which should be placed in areas where an intruder is probably going to pass. A keypad should be installed near to the entry door so that you can set or disable the alarm easily.
